Police arrest 2 men linked to phone theft and hacking in Bungoma
By Cynthia Lodite, June 6, 2026Police officers from Bungoma South Sub-County have arrested two men linked to an intricate mobile phone theft and hacking network operation in Bungoma.
In a statement on Saturday, June 6, 2026, the National Police Service confirmed that the two have been on the police radar since 2025.
“Police officers in Bungoma South Sub-County have dealt a major blow to an intricate mobile phone theft and hacking network operating within Bungoma County,” NPS stated.
According to the officers, the duo were traced in a joint crackdown with an operating network company in the Western region.
“Following an intelligence-led operation, the officers, in a joint crackdown with M-KOPA Kenya Limited, successfully tracked down and arrested two primary suspects,” NPS added.
The officers further explained that investigations reveal that the two have been running a well-coordinated syndicate spanning the Sang’alo area and Bungoma Township, prompting numerous complaints from members of the public.
“The duo, who have been under police surveillance since 2025, were apprehended in Bungoma Town. Investigations reveal that the suspects have been running a well-coordinated syndicate spanning the Sang’alo area and Bungoma Township, prompting numerous complaints from members of the public who have been victimised,” NPS added.

Recovered items
At the time of the crackdown, officers recovered a large cache of suspected stolen property and cybercrime equipment, including 53 assorted mobile phones of various makes.
In addition, officers also recovered at least five specialised flashing tools used to hack, unlock and alter phone operating systems.
“The two suspects are currently being held in police custody, pending processing and arraignment in court. The recovered mobile devices and digital tools have been seized and secured as exhibits,” the NPS stated.
