Police and a civilian drown after floods sweep their car
A Directorate of Criminal Investigations officer attached to Kipkelion Police Station and a female passenger died on Friday after their car was swept by floods.
According to a police report from Kipkelion Police Station in Kericho, the car carrying Chief Inspector Joseph Ngoche and an unknown female passenger was carried by floods near Mercy Girls Secondary School, a short distance from the station.
“It was reported by members of public that there is m/vehicle which was swept by by water at around 2030 hrs at the gate of mercy girls secondary school,two and half kilometre from the station,police rushed to the scene and found out M/vehicle Reg No. KAW 436B(sic),” read the report.
The officer had left the station shortly and was headed towards his home, police said.
The Deputy County Commissioner of Kipkelion said the bodies were retrieved after a search by Kericho County emergency team and area residents.
The bodies have been preserved at Kericho Mortuary.
