Planned power outages to affect 4 regions on Monday, September 29

Kenya Power has issued a notice of scheduled power interruptions expected to affect four regions across the country on Monday, September 29, 2025.

In a statement released on X on September 28, 2025, the utility company detailed the locations and timelines for the planned outages, which are part of routine network upgrades designed to improve electricity supply.

The affected regions are Nairobi, Central Rift, Western and Mt. Kenya.

Nairobi and Central Rift

In the Nairobi Region, power will be cut in Ruaraka from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Areas to be affected include NYS Headquarters, Utalli Village, St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, Survey of Kenya, NSIS Academy, Naivas Thika Road, part of GSU Headquarters, Muthaiga North Estate, Mada Hotel and neighbouring customers.

The Central Rift Region will experience outages in parts of Kericho County, specifically the Kapkara area, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Kapkara Primary School and adjacent customers will be affected as KPLC carries out maintenance aimed at enhancing supply reliability.

Western and Mt. Kenya regions

In the Western Region, parts of Kakamega County, including Malinya Market and Matioli Market, will be without power from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Other affected areas are Akatasa Market, Bukura Market, Bukura College and adjacent customers.

In the Mt. Kenya Region, outages will hit parts of Nyeri and Meru counties. In Nyeri, Gatitu and Sugar Baker areas will be affected from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., impacting Da-Venue Resort, Senior Chief Wambugu Hotel, Sugar Baker, Gatitu Market, Gatitu Police, Meskins Dairies, Kihoro Forest, parts of Kiamuiru, Kagumo Teachers College, Kagumo Crusher, Gatitu PCEA Church and neighbouring customers.

Ragati Tea Factory and Giakaibei Market areas will also see outages from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., covering Giakabeii Market, Kanjuri High School, Kanjuri Dispensary, Gitimali Market, Ragati Forest Station, Safaricom and Airtel boosters and adjacent customers.

Meru County affected

In Meru County, the Maua, Kinna and Garba-Tulla-Benane areas will also experience power cuts from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The list covers markets such as Muthara, Muriri, Mbaranga, Karama, Kangeta, Maili Tatu, Laare, Mutuati and Kabachi as well as Meru National Park, Kiegoi Tea Factory, Maua Town, Maua General Hospital and numerous surrounding villages and institutions.

KPLC said the planned work underscores its commitment to strengthening infrastructure and maintaining a stable power supply across the affected regions.
