Philip Kisia pressures DCI days after ruling out foul play in Jirongo’s death
By Mabonga Makhanu, January 13, 2026Former Nairobi Town Clerk Philip Kisia has called for a public inquest into the death of former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo, as a month elapses since his passing.
In a statement shared on his social media platforms on Tuesday, December 13, 2025, Kisia also urged the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to expedite the investigation and bring the matter to full closure.
He further called upon the Luhya community, to which Cyrus Jirongo belonged, noting that Jirongo was deeply passionate about the unity of his community. Kisia urged them to honour the late leader’s legacy by coming together for the common good.
“We still await a full, transparent report from the @DCI_Kenya. We demand an immediate public inquest for truth and closure. For the sake of the Luhya Nation, let us honor CJ’s legacy by uniting for our common good.”

Kisia continued to state unequivocally that there are still doubts over whether it was truly God who took the life of the late father of 38.
Kisia said that if Jirongo’s death was indeed caused by God, then he should rest in peace. However, if anyone was involved in his death, then their generation should be cursed.

He further noted that despite the autopsy conducted on Jirongo’s body at Lee Funeral Home, which found that he died from blunt force trauma to the chest, there remain many unanswered questions surrounding his death.
Foul play in jirongo’s death
This comes after the director of criminal investigation (DCI) recently came out to rule out foul play in the death of Jirongo, saying that it was an accident.
In a statement issued on Monday, January 5, 2026, the DCI has stated that detectives launched immediate investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding Jirongo’s death, deploying a multidisciplinary team comprising homicide detectives, crime intelligence experts, and forensic specialists from the National Forensic Laboratory.

According to the DCI, the investigative team processed the scene, secured and preserved critical exhibits, and documented physical evidence.
Further, CCTV footage from Eagol Petrol Station near the scene was recovered and subjected to forensic analysis.
Investigators also obtained the bus manifest, amateur video footage recorded at the scene, and other relevant materials to aid the inquiry.
