Former Nairobi Town Clerk Philip Kisia has invoked a curse on anyone who may have had a hand in the death of the late Lugari Member of Parliament (MP), Cyrus Jirongo.

Jirongo died recently in a tragic road accident in the Kerela area near Naivasha town on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at around 3:00 a.m.

While speaking during the requiem mass held at CITAM Valley Road on Saturday, December 27, 2025, where the late leader’s friends and family converged to pay tribute, Kisia, who hails from the same Tiriki sub-tribe as Jirongo, a branch of the larger Luhya community, said he shared a strong bond with the late politician.

He was even scheduled to have a meeting with Jirongo before the unfortunate incident occurred.

After concluding his tribute, Kisia raised his hand and pointed towards Jirongo’s casket, stating that he would deeply miss him and describing him as a great friend.

He wished him peace in death but went on to declare that if anyone had a hand in the demise of the veteran politician, such a person should never know peace.

“Cyrus, I will miss you, and if the lord is the one who has called you, then go in peace, and if there is anyone involved and if there is a human hand involved, let otherwise happen to you,” he said.

Elders’ curses

Kisia is not the first person to curse anyone suspected of involvement in Jirongo’s death. Recently, elders from the Tiriki community also went to his Gigiri home, where they performed similar rituals invoking a curse on anyone responsible for his death.

One elder, identified as Wandabuli, who donned religious attire synonymous with the African Divine Church, which is domiciled in major parts of Western Kenya, in his prayer told Jirongo’s spirit that if there was anyone involved in his demise, he should pursue them relentlessly and deny them peace.

Luhya burial rites

With most Luhya communities traditionally burying their dead lying sideways facing their believed place of origin, he urged that Jirongo be laid to rest lying supine so that he could continue pursuing his killers.

“If there is anybody involved in Jirongo’s death, we tell him not to rest and to lie supine and follow that killer to the grave,” prayed elder Wandabuli.

Another elder, Thomas Ingara, who is in charge of Tiriki traditions and rituals and who led the delegation, portrayed Jirongo as the pride of the community, noting that many looked up to him.
