The National Police Service (NPS), in a statement shared via X on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, said the person of interest was arrested after a dramatic pursuit by officers on patrol duties in the Majengo area along Lamu Road.
According to police, the officers encountered the individual during routine patrols when he reportedly attempted to flee upon noticing law enforcement presence, triggering a chase through nearby routes.
The pursuit continued towards the California area before officers eventually cornered the suspect at the Madina Mall Roundabout in Eastleigh, where he was successfully apprehended.
Weapons recovered
A search conducted immediately after the arrest led to the recovery of a homemade firearm and a knife, which police believe may have been used in criminal activities.
“Yesterday, police officers on patrol duties along Lamu Road in the Majengo area of Nairobi encountered a notorious suspect known by the aliases “Kanyundo” and “Rashid Abdalla”. Upon noticing the officers, the suspect immediately fled, prompting a determined pursuit by the patrol team,” the NPS stated.
“The suspect attempted to escape towards the California area as officers gave chase. The officers eventually caught up with him at the Madina Mall Roundabout in Eastleigh, where he was successfully arrested. A thorough search conducted upon arrest led to the recovery of a homemade firearm and a knife.”
Preliminary police investigations indicate that the said individual is a well-known figure in the Shauri Moyo area and is believed to be linked to multiple criminal incidents reported within the locality.
Authorities further stated that he has previously been associated with cases involving stabbing attacks and phone snatching, which have contributed to insecurity concerns among residents in the affected neighbourhoods.
“Preliminary enquiries established that he is a well-known and notorious criminal with a history of involvement in serious criminal activities within the Shauri Moyo area. Records indicate previous cases linked to the suspect, including incidents of stabbing and phone snatching—crimes that have caused concern among residents and contributed to insecurity within the locality,” the statement read.

He remains in police custody as investigations continue. He is expected to be arraigned in court to face relevant charges once police complete their enquiries.
The National Police Service has reiterated its commitment to intensifying patrols, intelligence-led operations, and coordinated crackdowns aimed at curbing violent crime and restoring safety in urban areas.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to security agencies as efforts to dismantle criminal networks continue across Nairobi.
