Panic over disease outbreak in school
At least five students of Gesiaga Secondary School in Nyamira County are in hospital after an outbreak of an illness.
Panic has gripped the school following the outbreak, with several students treated at the institution’s health facility.
Parents of the affected students yesterday accused the administration of downplaying the outbreak.
Juliet Ondigi told People Daily at Oasis Hospital where her daughter is admitted that the student had missed school for a month.
“My daughter became sick while in school. I have taken her to hospitals in Nyamira without any change and that is why we were referred to Oasis in Kisii where she is undergoing treatment,” she said.
The other students are admitted at Nyamira County referral hospital, Shilom in Kericho Town and Holsom in Nyamira County.
The headmaster, Zachary Ondieki admitted that some students had complained of stomachache and headache but the situation had been contained.
