Panic in Bomet as mystery creature mauls man
Security officers in Bomet are still trying to unravel the identity of a strange creature that has continued to devour human flesh.
The creature has already mauled three people, killing one and leaving the two others with serious injuries.
In what has left the residents in fear, all the three incidents are happening at the same spot, a few metres from Bomet town.
What is more worrying is that the creature targets particular parts of the body such as ears and eyes.
In the two earlier cases which happened in September last year in a span of two weeks, the victims had their ears and eyes gouged out and had deep cuts on their thighs.
In the Tuesday’s incident, a man had his left ear and eye gouged out and his knee mauled.
He was, however, rescued and taken to hospital.
The man, now admitted at Tenwek Mission Hospital in critical condition, had been undressed and clothes torn.
Eye witnesses say the victim was drunk and seated at a road leading to his Cheboing’ong home off the main Bomet-Kaplong highway.
The spot is just metres from where the last two incidents occurred.
He was dragged aside and mauled.
“The driver of a lorry which was passing by spotted a naked person on the road and immediately raised alarm, attracting neighbours and residents who rushed to the scene and rescued him,” said a watchman at a residencs in the area.
On Wednesday, police had a rough time containing angry residents who broke the social distancing rule and milled at the scene before barricading the highway, demanding answers over the incident.
“If there is anyone who knows or has any information on what this could be kindly come forward and tell us,” Bomet Deputy police boss Paul Tanui told residents.
MCA Robert Serbai, who addressed residents at the scene, asked police to expedite investigations so that residents could continue living without fear.
Officer commanding Bomet central sub county, Musa Imamai, said they are treating the incident as cultic.
