Orengo formally joins Siaya governor race
Siaya Senator James Orengo has officially declared his candidature for Siaya gubernatorial seat, saying he was best suited for the job.
Addressing a series of rallies in Ugunja constituency at the weekend, Orengo (pictured) told off residents who have been urging him to remain at the national level, so as to help ODM leader Raila Odinga in his national political activities. The Senate Minority Leader said he would be of much help to the former premier and the government, by ensuring that matters are properly executed at the grassroots level.
Orengo gave the example of Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho and Kakamega’s Wycliffe Oparanya, whom he said were steadfast in ODM Raila’s campaign, despite being heads of their respective devolved units.
“There are people who say I am best suited for the national politics. That I can only help Raila when I am at the national level. Didn’t Joho come here recently? Isn’t he a governor? Has Oparanya also not been to Siaya? Isn’t he a governor? And Ngilu who was with Raila, yesterday? Is she not a governor?” posed Orengo, adding there was no room for retrogressive politics.
He said even as a governor, he will not keep quiet when things go wrong.
