Okiya Omtatah reveals his net worth
By Arnold Ngure, August 5, 2025Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah has revealed that his net worth could be in the region of Ksh100-200 million.
In an interview on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, Omtatah stated that his net worth consists of parcels of land he has bought across the country, a transport company with several trucks, and liquid assets.
“I own quite a bit of land, which I have been buying here and there. I run a transport company which has several trucks,” Omtatah stated.
“If I were to be assessed well, including liquidating the pieces of land and my other assets, I could put myself between Ksh100-200 million.”
Gen Z candidate?
Omtatah, who has intimated that he could vie for the presidency of the country in 2027, is a favourite among the youth who aim for a fundamental reset of the institutions of governance in the country.

He comes alongside former Chief Justice David Maraga as a potential duo who could tap into the youthful population with their ideologies and perceived freshness in the political arena.
Omtatah’s political journey is one of a public interest litigator transitioning into a political leader. For many years, he was widely known as a fierce and relentless activist, often seen in the corridors of justice fighting against corruption and advocating for the rights of the common Kenyan.
Career litigator
His activism was defined by a series of high-profile court cases, where he challenged government policies and actions that he deemed unconstitutional or against the public good.
Consequently, that phase of his life established his credentials as a defender of the Constitution and a voice for the voiceless, forming the bedrock of his public persona.

In 2017, Omtatah made his first attempt at a political seat, contesting for the Busia County senatorial position on a Ford-Kenya ticket. Despite his widespread recognition as an activist, he was unsuccessful in this bid, losing to the Orange Democratic Movement’s (ODM) candidate, Amos Wako.
However, he was successful in his second stab at the Busia Senatorial race after running against an ODM candidate under his National Reconstruction Alliance (NRA) Party.
Omtatah garnered a commanding 171,681 votes against his closest competitor, Hillary Itela of ODM, who came second with 59,276 votes in the 2022 general elections.
