Officials visit disputed Kisii-Nyamira boundary
Senior officers from the Ministry Lands, National Land Commission and Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission on Friday met over the boundary dispute between Nyamira and Kisii counties.
For the last four months, the dispute in Keroka town has caused anxiety among residents doing business along the border of the two counties.
The surveyors, who were led by the assistant director in the Ministry of Lands Joseph Munyendo, said they will use the scientific system to determine the boundaries using maps from 1963 to 2012.
The IEBC team was represented by Caroline Manyange, a Director in charge boundaries while NLC was represented by the chairman Gerishon Otachi. Nyamira county government was represented by the county Attorney Erastus Orina.
Surveyors and lawyers representing the two counties and other interested parties were present during the exercise which took five hours under tight security.
The team established out that over 60 per cent of the contested areas right from Keroka Cooperative Society linking Gucha private hospital to Nyabiemba shopping centre fall under Nyamira County.
