ODM sets new timetable for county delegate, ward and constituency polls

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has revised its internal election timetable, announcing that County Delegates elections will now be conducted on Monday, August 25, 2025, across the country, except in Migori, Nairobi, and Kisumu counties.

In a notice released by the party’s National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) on Monday, August 18, 2025, signed by its Chairperson Emily Awita, ODM confirmed that the polls will take place “at designated polling centres on Monday, August 25, 2025.” The statement reads

According to the notice, eligible delegates of the branches, as published on the ODM Party Website, will be allowed to apply for any positions at County offices.

The statement further outlined fees payable by aspirants seeking different positions.

In addition to the county delegate elections, the party also set new dates for Ward and Constituency elections in Kasipul Constituency.

“Wednesday, August 20, 2025; East Kamagak Ward election and Thursday, August 21, 2025; Kasipul Constituency election,” the notice reads.

The changes mark a critical step in ODM’s ongoing grassroots elections, which had earlier experienced adjustments in scheduling. By clearly outlining the dates and fees, the party leadership aims to instil order, consistency, and transparency in the nomination process. This clarity, they argue, will not only help aspirants better prepare as they position themselves for roles in the County offices but also strengthen confidence in the party’s internal democracy and ensure a fair playing field for all contestants.

The notice emphasised that only eligible delegates will participate. Except for Migori, Nairobi, and Kisumu, all counties are now expected to proceed with the elections simultaneously on the newly announced date.

ODM’s decision to revise its calendar comes at a time when grassroots democracy within political parties is under close watch. For aspirants, the notice provides the official framework for application and competition in the upcoming contests.

The NECC Chairperson, Hon. Emily Awita, who signed off on the communication, underscored the official nature of the revised schedule, marking it as the guiding framework for ODM’s internal electoral exercise.
