Nzoia, Leopards read sinister motive in Mumias ban

AFC Leopards and Nzoia FC are reading a sinister motive in Kenya Premier League (KPL) decision to ban Mumias Complex as one of the venues for league matches.
KPL security committee banned Mumias last week, citing lack of water, poor playing surface and dilapidated stands.
However, the two clubs, who had registered Mumias as an alternative venue for their home matches, have called out KPL for what they term selective application of rules.
“KPL management should get serious. We have some venues in the country which have been approved but they do not have better facilities than what is in Mumias.
Why the double standards? We should be spared all this and allowed to source for the sponsors at this time when things are getting tough for our teams,” Nzoia Sugar chairman Yappets Mokua said in Kakamega yesterday.
“We are a bit relieved because we have completed our high risk matches against Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards and I believe the remaining matches can be hosted at Sudi stadium,” he added.
His Leopards counterpart Dan Shikanda also expressed his disappointment, calling on the government to speed up the renovation of Nyayo Stadium which has been closed for three years.
“KPL should understand the hard times teams are currently experiencing and support us not worsen the situation.
Allow me to question the commitment of both national, county governments together with KPL because they have failed us. Where do they want us to play from, Uganda and Tanzania?” posed Shikanda.
