Impeachable Sources: Nyong’o accused of violating Chapter Sick of the Constitution
By Mambo Matata, July 24, 2023Shocked by what they say is an attempt to cheapen leaders’ lives, politicians across the country have warned Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o to stop his strange conduct, failure to which he will face disciplinary action.
Impeachable sources say the leaders are concerned that the Governor would put his life in danger by getting admitted to a county hospital, let alone undergo a complicated operation by local doctors.
“There are things you simply don’t do as a leader, even for political mileage, and that is to risk your life by seeking treatment at a local hospital. You can eat maandazi at roadside kiosks or eat roasted maize but when it comes to hospitalization that is where you draw the line,” said a politician who did not want to be named.
An impeachable source said politicians and senior civil servants are planning to send a delegation to the Kisumu Governor to convince him not to, in future, gamble with a leader’s life.
The source said the leaders are concerned that the Governor may set a bad example and before long every politician will be taking selfies on poorly equipped and sparsely staffed public hospitals.
“A leader’s life is too precious to play politics with. The people need us alive and the least that we can do for them is to seek the best medical care in the best hospitals abroad. We must not fail the people by endangering our own lives,” said another politician.
He added that to be able to bring health care closer to the people by building more village dispensaries and sub-district hospitals, leaders need to be of sound health.
“That is why we are entitled to the state-of-the-art medical facilities here and abroad so that we can continue to bring development to the people. We owe that to our voters,” he said.
He added that it would be disrespectful to the people for a leader to risk one’s life by seeking treatment in a mere county hospital, let alone a national referral hospital.
The furious politician urged the Senate Health committee to summon the Kisumu Governor to explain why he broke the time-honoured tradition of giving leaders the most expensive medical care in European and American hospitals.
“Nyong’o clearly violated Chapter Sick of the Constitution and should show cause why action should not be taken against him. He must have a date with the Senate Health Committee,” he demanded.
A source said the leaders took solace that while the Governor had done the unthinkable, some doctors from America worked with the Kenyan team.
They, however, said that in future, Nyong’o must seek treatment in the hospitals where the visiting doctors work, instead of them coming to Kenya.
“One must never take chances with a leaders’ health. The people pay through the nose to ensure politicians have the best medical care that money can buy and we can only thank them by flying out to London, New York and Johannesburg for treatment. Anything else would be an insult to the taxpayer,” a leader said.
