The Nyeri Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) lay leader, Canon Mberi, has appealed to President William Ruto to help her daughter secure employment.

While speaking during a church service held at ACK St Paul’s Kariki in Othaya, Nyeri County, on Sunday, January 11, 2025, the cleric openly addressed the president and asked him to consider her daughter, Caroline Wanyagi, for employment.

He explained that her daughter is well educated, has completed a university degree, and is a good person, adding that she would greatly appreciate it if the president considered her request. He further stated that if her daughter were considered, she would continue praying for the president day and night and expressed gratitude in advance.

According to the cleric, President Ruto had previously visited the church and presided over a fundraiser whose proceeds were used to support several needy students within the church. She noted that while some of those students have since completed their studies, many are yet to access employment opportunities.

He went on to mention other beneficiaries, including Waweru Gacheru, who has completed a degree and has worked closely with the church. She also spoke about a young man scheduled to attend a job interview on Thursday, identified as Brian Gashisho, at the Kenya Maritime sector.

He described him as a product of the president’s support and urged the president to look into their cases, saying it would bring great joy to the church.

Tuko na Waweru gacheru ako na degree, tumefanya kazi kubwa na yeye, tuko na kijana ambaye anaenda interview on Thursday, and he is your product anaitwa Brian Gashisho, pale Kenya Maritimes, and he is your product. Ukiingalia mambo yao tutafurahi sana.”

Ruto’s earlier assist

The cleric further praised President Ruto, stating that the church is proud of him and deeply appreciates him. He recalled that when the president previously visited the church, he was facing financial challenges, but miracles happened during his visit.

He added that the church had a debt at the time and that she had assured congregants that once the president visited, a miracle would take place. He concluded by saying that the church resolved to support him by making him a member number 001.

This comes at a time when Anglican Bishop Ole Sapit warned the church against receiving gifts from politicians and them speaking in churches
