Nyandarua intern nurses seek work slots

The 40 nurses who have been working under contract for four years under the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Nyandarua have appealed to the county government to be giving them priority when employing people in the health department.

 In a memorandum to Governor Moses Kiarie Badilisha, read during fete to mark end of International Nurses Week, the interns said since they were hired to manage the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, they have gained a lot of work experience and should be given priority when the county is employing permanent staff.

 “At times we have been serving to relieve nurses who go on leave, which is an indication that we have the necessary experience to be given priority for permanent and pensionable engagement by the County,” said the memorandum read by Simon Kiugu who is one of the interns.

 Wanjiru Kanuri who is director of Rootcause, an NGO that sponsored the celebration, said the UHC interns offer the county government a golden chance to employ experienced people to foster the devolved unit’s quest to address health challenges caused by the prevalent diabetes and hypertension.
