Team to resolve Nyamira county university location impasse

The tussle among elected leaders over the location of the proposed Nyamira county university will be decided by a technical committee made up of members of Kisii university and the Commission for Higher Education.

The decision was reached following a stormy meeting held by a section of elected leaders on Thursday last week in which they are said to have differed sharply with each bidding for their electoral area.

The meeting was chaired by the county governor Amos Nyaribo (pictured) and attended by senator Okong’o Omogeni, Woman Rep Jerusa Momanyi, Mps Clive Ombane Gisairo (Kitutu Masaba), Joash Nyamoko (North Mugirango), Steve Mogaka (West Mugirango Patrick Osero (Borabu) and Irene Mayaka (nominated MP).

Kisii University has been identified tasked with the responsibility of starting university campus in Nyamira county but no step has been taken following the tussle and wrangles among the leaders over the location.

Expected visit

The Kitutu Masaba MP Clive Gisairo is rooting for Sengera Manga mixed, Joash Nyamoko (North Mugirango) for Ikonge Boys secondary school, Steve Mogaka (West Mugirango) is for senator Kebaso/Bondo area while the Borabu MP Patrick Osero is fronting Kiabonyoru High School.

The committee is expected to visit Kebaso Primary, Kiabonyoru High School, Sengera Manga mixed secondary, Ikonge Boys high, Simbauti farm and Riakimai to assess the locations.

Speaking to People Daily on phone, governor Nyaribo said: “I want to assure our people that we will honour all the finding and recommendation the team of experts will come out with”.

“As leaders, we have agreed that we seriously need a university in our county and therefore we can’t allow other political sideshows to derail us and undermining this dream. We expect to have our first university intake as from September this year” governor Nyaribo stated.
