NTSA appoints new Director General
By Cy Muganda, February 18, 2026The National Transport and Safety Authority has appointed Nashon Kondiwa as its new Director General, in a move aimed at strengthening leadership and accelerating reforms in road transport management and safety.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, NTSA Board Chairman Khatib Abdallah Mwashetani announced that the appointment was made in consultation with the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Roads and Transport.
“The NTSA Board of Directors, in consultation with the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Roads and Transport, is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Nashon Kondiwa as the Director General of the National Transport and Safety Authority for a term of three (3) years, with effect from 17th February 2026,” Mwashetani stated.
Internal promotion
According to the authority, Kondiwa brings over 22 years of distinguished experience in information and communication technology, innovation, public sector leadership, transportation, intelligent transport systems, urban mobility and digital transformation within the road transport sector.
“Mr Kondiwa brings over 22 years of distinguished experience in information and communication technology (ICT), innovation, public sector leadership, Transportation, Intelligent Transport Systems, Urban Mobility and digital transformation within the road transport sector,” the statement read.
Before his elevation, Kondiwa served as Deputy Director of Information Communication Technology at NTSA, where he led significant technological initiatives.
“Prior to his appointment, he served as the Deputy Director of Information Communication Technology at NTSA, where he spearheaded the Digital Transformation of the Authority and its service delivery systems,” the statement noted.
Board confidence
Announcing the appointment, the NTSA Board expressed confidence that Kondiwa’s institutional knowledge and technical expertise would help steer the Authority towards improved performance and impact.
NTSA Board Chairman Hon. Khatib Abdallah Mwashetani said the appointment reflects the Authority’s commitment to strong leadership as it pursues its mandate of enhancing road safety and regulating road transport in the country.
“The Board is confident that Mr Kondiwa’s proven expertise in ICT leadership, strategic vision, transportation, and deep institutional knowledge will steer NTSA to even greater heights, delivering measurable improvements in Road Transport management, road safety outcomes and operational excellence,” Mwashetani stated.
