Night fire razes dormitory, store at Kisumu Boys
Police in Kisumu are investigating the cause of a fire at Kisumu Boys High School on Sunday night.
A storage facility and a dormitory were burnt down in the fire that broke out at around 7.15pm.
Firefighters arrived at the scene in good time and managed to contain the fire before it spread to other buildings.
County Commissioner Hussein Alassow Hussein said the cause of the fire was yet to be established, adding that investigations were ongoing.
Hussein said no casualties were reported in the inferno.
“We are yet to establish the cause of the fire. Our officers are already conducting investigations to find out what exactly transpired,” he said.
Speaking to the media at the school, Nyanza Regional Education director Nelson Sifuna said about 260 students who use the dormitory had been affected.
Sifuna said that the fire is suspected to have originated in the storage area where mattresses are kept.
“We are glad that there was no damage to the students property due to the efforts of the school community,” said the education boss.
The incident adds to a series of fires that have hit the school in recent years.
In August last year, a fire destroyed dormitories and classrooms at the institution while in January 2021, a dormitory was razed down , leaving a trail of destruction of property.
