Ngilu gets 30 days to pay delayed doctors dues

By , November 11, 2021

The Labour court yesterday granted Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu 30 days to pay 20 medical doctors their salaries due since July.

Verdict on the matter came after Ngilu (pictured) honoured court summons and physically appeared before  the Employment and Labour Relations Court Judge Monica Mbaru and sought to be given more time to comply with the court order. Ngilu, who had been summoned personally for disobeying a court order undertook to comply with court orders and pay the 20 Kitui county doctors studying abroad their salary arrears within 30 days.

The governor further confirmed to the court that doctors who have since been dismissed were free to work at Kitui County following appropriate mediation.

On November 5, Justice Mbaru ordered Ngilu to appear in court alongside the county’s service board secretary, Health minister and Health Chief Officer, to show cause why they should not be punished for failing to pay the doctors as directed.

The summons came after the court ordered the county government to pay the doctors their dues due but Ngilu’s administration failed to do so.
