Ruto’s fight back over CSs petition

Lawyer Saitabao Ole Kanchory has filed a petition in a Malindi court challenging President William Ruto’s 14 new Cabinet Secretaries (CS) nominees ahead of their vetting slated for August 2024.

Kanchory argues in his petition that the nomination of the said CSs especially from the Opposition side violates the constitution and weakens the country’s multiparty democracy.

“I have this afternoon filed a Constitutional Petition and Application under Certificate of Urgency challenging the nomination for appointment as CS of 14 of the 20 nominees on grounds, inter alia, that it amounts to mongrelization, bastardization and cannibalization of our multiparty democracy and a gross violation of the Constitution. Kenya ni home and we will not relent. They will not believe,” Kanchory said.

Other petitions have also been filed in a bid to block the new Cabinet nominees from facing the Committee on Appointments in August 2024.

However, President William Ruto is expected to respond to the petition by filing a response in court. Moreover, he is expected to hit back at the petitioners while launching several projects in the Coastal region.

ODM MPs are also expected to continue defending the nomination of four of their members into Cabinet.

Response to Gachagua’s rant

The political space is expected to heat up this Saturday, July 27, 2024, following Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s sentiments on those who took advantage of the protests to settle political scores.

While speaking on Friday, July 26, 2024, the Second in Command reprimanded an unnamed political elite of who took advantage of the youthful protests to settle political scores and push their vested agendas by referring to them as idiots.

He noted that the individuals are worse than those who infiltrated peaceful protests to loot and create chaos.

“Let us remain united as a country, we have just gone through very difficult periods….those who took advantage of well intentioned peaceful protests to loot property to steal, to hurt, those are idiots; Those who are more idiotic are those who tried to take advantage of the whole scenario to settle political scores with those they don’t support or have a problem with…..trying to push on blame. Let people know that Kenyans are intelligent people. People of this country have come of age, they see from far they analyse and they know,” Gachagua said.

His criticism is expected to spark reactions from leaders across the political divide. ODM leaders are more likely to hit back at Gachagua.
