Here is what you need to know to get up to speed with today’s happenings.

KMPDU to occupy MOH

The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) is set to occupy the Ministry of Health offices today due to the government’s failure to post interns.

In a letter to the Nairobi Regional Police Commander last week, the union announced that they would be occupying the Ministry of Health offices starting today, with sessions set for both day and night beginning at 9:00 a.m.

The letter, signed by KMPDU Secretary General Davji Atella, highlighted that their Return to Work Formula (RTWF), which stipulated that doctors and interns would receive their posting letters within 60 days, had not been honored. This period ends on Friday, July 7, 2024.

The letter also requested the Nairobi Regional Police Commander to provide security for the participants during their occupation.

Scheduled power outages

Several areas are expected to experience power outages. In Nairobi County, the Kitsuru area, including Gachie, Kirawa Road, ISK Back Road, Ngecha Road, and Kitsuru Road, will be affected.

In Narok County, Oldonyorok Market, Angara Barikoi Market, Gwiternbe Market, and Jerusalem will face outages. Tharaka Nithi County will see Gituaka and Kwa Morris impacted.

In Embu County, Gaturi Secondary, Kathangari Dispensary, Kathangari Village, Mikimbi Market, Mukangu Water Treatment, Father Kibariki, and Kavurukori will be without power.

Gor Mahia set for Kagame Cup in Tanzania

Gor Mahia FC are expected in Tanzania this Monday ahead of the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) Kagame Cup 2024.

John Auka Gecheo, Executive Director of CECAFA, confirmed that the Ksh7.6 million prize money will be split among the champion, runner-up, and third-place winner. This prize money is provided by Rwandan President Paul Kagame, who has supported the growth of football in the CECAFA zone since 2002 with an annual contribution of $60,000 (Ksh7.6 million).

The winners at the Dar Port Kagame Cup will pocket US$30,000 (Ksh3.8 million), while the runner-up will receive US$20,000 (Ksh2.5 million), and the third-placed team will take home US$10,000 (Ksh1.2 million).

Dar es Salaam Port, under the Tanzania Ports Authority, and Azam TV are other partners supporting the regional tournament.

Gor Mahia has confirmed their fixtures for the upcoming CECAFA Kagame Cup, with matches set to kick off on July 10, 2024. Gor Mahia FC will start their campaign against Zambian side Red Arrows at the Azam Complex at 9:00 p.m. on July 10. They will then face Djibouti side Telkom on July 13, 2024, at 9:00 p.m., and in their final group stage match, Gor Mahia FC will take on Al Hilal FC from Sudan at 4:00 p.m. on July 17, 2024.
