Here is what you need to know to get up to speed with today’s happenings.
National Assembly morning session
The Members of the National Assembly are set to convene a morning sitting session at Parliament to address the Finance Bill 2024.
The National Assembly announced on Tuesday their resolution to hold a morning sitting this Thursday. In a motion sponsored by the Leader of the Majority Party, Kimani Ichung’wah, the legislators unanimously adopted the procedural motion to hold a Morning Sitting on Thursday, June 20, 2024, commencing at 9.30 am.
The MPs emphasized that the extended time will allow for more thorough consideration of priority business. The extended session will supplement the usual Wednesday sittings, providing additional time for members to propose amendments and extensively debate the 2024 Finance Bill.
Demonstrations
Following Tuesday’s demonstration, further protests are anticipated to urge Members of Parliament to vote against the Finance Bill.
Online mobilization efforts suggest that demonstrations may occur in various parts of the country. These protests are expected to begin in the morning, coinciding with the commencement of the parliamentary session.
Ministry of Sports and NOC-K Awards Ceremony
The Ministry of Sports and the National Olympics Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) will award winners of the national competition for designing ceremonial dress for #TeamKenya to the Paris 2024 Olympics this Thursday.
The Kenyan teams are in their final preparations for the Olympics, with 36 athletes set to represent Kenya in track events. Additionally, Kenya 7s and the Malkia Strikers have qualified and will don the newly designed ceremonial dress heading to Paris.
Harambee Stars U23 Camp
The Harambee Stars U23 squad is set to report to camp to begin preparations for the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Cup.
Football Kenya Federation named the squad on Tuesday, and the team will have less than six days to prepare for the 2024 COSAFA Cup, which is scheduled to be hosted in South Africa from June 26 to July 7, 2024.
Coach Ken Odhiambo has been appointed to lead the Harambee Stars U23 squad for the upcoming 2024 COSAFA Cup, to which Kenya has been invited as a guest participant.
