New lobby to campaign for ODM leader Raila in grassroots

A group of youth has launched a lobby dubbed “Baba Mashinani” to campaign for ODM leader Raila Odinga.
The group – which comprises the Young Turks for the Handshake Alliance (Yotha), chaired by Jaoko Oburu, and Nairobi ni Sisi lobby, led by activist Teddy Mutu Kenyatta, kicked off the campaigns in Nairobi’s Kibera slums on Wednesday night.
Other leading voices of the lobby include Fred McJose, who is the chairman of the Students and Young Professionals national caucus and John Ole Ketora, the ODM Youth League president.
“We believe that economic empowerment for the young generation in this country can only be achieved in what the national anthem highlights; plenty be found within our borders,” Jaoko said stating that the groups have express orders from.
Jaoko co-chairs Yotha with Sports Chief Administrative Secretary Zack Kinuthia.
The outfit was commissioned in November 2020 by President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila.
“We were tasked to bring together young people under the Handshake for peace, unity and economic prosperity,” he said in Lavington where Yotha has a secretariat.
The Baba Mashinani launch programme was graced by Laikipia Deputy Governor John Mwaniki and Mumbi Ng’aru, a long time ally of the ODM leader, and former member of the Arusha-based East African Legislative Assembly.
“Raila has been in the trenches fighting for this country in all spheres; from the second liberation to its development through devolution, cohesion and accountability for public resources. In Baba’s leadership, this country is safe,” said Ngaru.
Mwaniki said the time for this country to take a different direction through unity of purpose was long overdue.
