The County Government of Bomet has sworn in the new Bomet Municipality Board for a 5-year term contract.

According to a statement by Bomet governor Hillary Barchok on March 18, 2026, the board members were nominated by various stakeholders and successfully vetted by the County Assembly.

He said the move comes as the region hits a critical “take-off point,” transitioning from a rural administrative center into an economic hub poised for a transformative development boom.

He said they are expected to provide the leadership necessary for the municipality’s transformative development boom.

The new board

The newly inaugurated board consists of Mercy Chebet, Edwin Kirui, Duncan Kipngetich, Ernest Cheruiyot, Josphat Kirui, Francis Cheres, and Rida Chepkirui.

“We today have sworn in a new Bomet Municipality Board. The board members were nominated by various stakeholders and were subsequently successfully vetted by the County Assembly. The new Bomet Municipality Board Members are: Mercy Chebet, Edwin Kirui, Duncan Kipngetich, Ernest Cheruiyot, Josphat Kirui, Francis Cheres, Rida Chepkirui, and Davis Langat, the Municipality Manager. Also sworn in was the Sotik Municipal Manager Benard Ngeno,” Barchok noted.

Barchok said the new board is made up of professionals chosen by different groups to make sure that the municipality’s interests are represented in a variety of ways.

Eyes economic boom

He said they are in charge of overseeing the growth of Bomet Town, Longisa, Kapkwen, Kapsimotwa, Tenwek, Merigi, and Silibwet, adding that they should do this with honesty and technical know-how.

“The new board has its work cut out for it. We are, however, cognisant of their abilities and we are confident they will deliver. They have all our support. We urge them to work with integrity and dedication for the residents of Bomet Municipality,” Barchok said.

Barchok said the swearing-in of a new municipal board will bring about a major economic change in Bomet Municipality.

He said a wave of infrastructure projects is turning the town into a rapidly growing urban and investment hub. He noted that after years of lobbying for more investment and development, the municipality has reached a take-off point.

“Bomet Municipality has seen tremendous growth in the last few years. After intentional investments and intense development lobbying by the County Government of Bomet, the Bomet Municipality is today at the takeoff point of what is bound to be a transformative development boom in the next couple of years,” Barchok noted.

Barchok revealed that the County Government is working with the National government are carrying out several infrastructural projects within the Municipality, which, if taken advantage of by local businesses men and investors, will drastically change the fortunes of Bomet Municipality.

The projects include the almost complete Bomet-Mulot Water Project, Bomet University, Bomet Town Affordable Housing Project, the expanded Kapkwen Livestock Market, Dr. Joyce Laboso Mother and Child Hospital, tarmacking of Bomet Town streets, the proposed Bomet Kipchamba National Stadium, the upcoming Bomet Town Doctor’s Plaza, the proposed SGR Railway station in Bomet Town, Bomet Itembe Airstrip, and the proposed Bomet Town Modern Market.
