Political analyst Ndegwa Njiru has called on Chief Justice Martha Koome to exercise caution and remain firm as the country heads into a tense political period marked by upcoming by-elections.

Njiru said the by-elections are shaping up to be more than a routine contest, stating that they reflect the political direction the country is likely to take ahead of the 2027 general election. According to him, the judiciary will play a crucial role in ensuring fairness and stability during the transition.

Njiru in a statement posted on X on Sunday, November 23, 2025, warned that as political temperatures rise, the judiciary must remain independent and alert to safeguard the democratic process. “I appeal to the Chief Justice, CJ Martha Koome, to be on guard. The future of this country now rests on the judiciary. The judiciary must midwife this political transition,” Njiru stated.

Forthcoming by-elections

The ruling party, United Democratic Alliance (UDA), has intensified its campaign efforts in key areas, including Mbeere North, where senior government officials have been deployed to rally support.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has led several campaign tours accompanied by Cabinet secretaries and other leaders. At the same time, Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetangula, has thrown his weight behind the FORD-Kenya candidate in Kabuchai-Chwele ward, a move seen as part of the wider Kenya Kwanza strategy to tighten its grip on the region.

On the opposition site, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has also been on the ground in Mbeere North, where he has spent over a week rallying voters in support of DCP’s Newton Karish. His presence shows a determined push by opposition leaders to challenge the UDA’s dominance
