NCIC lauds Kenyans for peaceful polls

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has commended Kenyans for maintaining peace before during and after the August 9 General Election.

Through its chairman Samuel Kobia, the commission said that save for a few incidents, the country remained peaceful throughout the electioneering period. “We commend the Kenyan voters for conducting themselves peacefully and responsibly, with no major cases of violence and showing restraint where it mattered most,” said Kobia.

He observed that with the conclusion of the postponed elections in some electoral areas, it is time for leaders to demonstrate their leadership and statesmanship. “The voice of the electorate has been heard, having done their duty and voted. It is time now for the electoral politics to stop and the hard work of nation building to continue in earnest,” he said.

Kobia at the same time commends all leaders who have made peace with their rivals and conceded defeat after the elections. “We also commend all those who graciously accepted defeat and allowed the electorate to move on,” he added. 

The chairman noted that the petition on the presidential election at the Supreme Court shows the maturation of Kenyan politics. “The Supreme Court is the most competitive place to settle disputes and we thank Kenyans for trusting the court to deliver a sound ruling based on truth and justice,” said Kobia.
