National Assembly thrown into mourning as nominated MP dies
The National Assembly has been thrown into mourning following the death of nominated Member of Parliament Denar Joseph Hamisi, who passed away on Saturday morning, December 6, 2025, at about 7:00 am.
In a formal communication to the House on Saturday, December 6, 2025, Speaker Moses Wetang’ula described the late MP’s death as a painful loss to Parliament and the country, noting that Hon. Denar served with diligence, humility and a steadfast commitment to public service.
“It is with profound sorrow that I hereby notify the House and the entire parliamentary fraternity of the untimely demise of Nominated Member, the late Hon. Denar Joseph Hamisi, MP, who passed on today, Saturday, December 6, 2025, at about 7:00 am,” Wetangula stated.

Wetangula has not said that Denar joined the National Assembly after the 2022 General Election under the Amani National Congress (ANC) Party.
He was a dedicated member of the Departmental Committee on Sports & Culture and the Select Committee on National Cohesion & Equal Opportunities, where colleagues recall his calm demeanour and commitment to national unity.
Born in 1969 in Kinango, the late legislator attended Mombasa Baptist High School before proceeding to university. He later acquired a Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management from USIU in 2000, a master’s degree in International Business Administration in 2002, and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Nairobi in 2006. His academic journey reflected his ambition and passion for personal growth and leadership.

Before joining Parliament, Hon. Denar served in various senior positions in both the public and private sectors. His past roles included Director of the Coast Development Authority (2007–2010), Commissioner at the Electoral Commission of Kenya (2007–2008), Director at the Kenya Airports Authority (2009–2012), and Director at the Kenya National Accreditation Services (2011–2012).

He also served as a council member at both the University of Nairobi and Moi University.
Speaker Wetang’ula said Hon. Denar will be remembered for his humility and unwavering dedication to improving the lives of Kenyans. He extended condolences to the MP’s family, friends and all who had interacted with him over the years.
To ensure a dignified farewell, the Speaker appointed a team to liaise with the family and coordinate burial arrangements. The team will be led by the Deputy Leader of the Majority Party, Hon. Owen Baya Yaa.
The National Assembly will issue further details regarding the funeral arrangements in due course.
