Nairobi set to host commonwealth education ministers

Kenya will this week host the Commonwealth Education ministers to discuss post-Covid-19 recovery.

The 21st Conference of Commonwealth Education Ministers will bring together 54 education ministers and other policymakers. The meeting will take place in Nairobi on Wednesday and Thursday.

“Participants will identify areas of action and explore innovative approaches that can be adapted by member countries to develop sustainable and resilient education systems,” the Commonwealth Secretariat said in a statement.

The theme of the conference is: “Rethinking Education for Innovation, Growth and Sustainability post-Covid-19”.

Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland said the impact of Covid-19 on young people had been especially distressing with the education of millions of students disrupted.

“The pandemic has already taken so much from us. We must act now to prevent it from taking away the human right to education,” she said.

Kenya’s Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha, who is the incoming chair of the Education Ministerial Action Group, said there is a need to invest in inclusive and equitable quality education.
