Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua is in trouble with Members of Parliament (MPs) after they threatened to have him censured following his failure to appear before the committee to explain his ministry’s decision to transfer various functions to the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s office.
MPs who sit in the Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations committee accused Mutua of being ‘drank’ with power as he has on four occasions snubbed the committee invitations.
While expressing their anger and outrage towards him, the lawmakers summoned the CS to personally appear before them on April 11 to respond to the said queries failure to which they will kick start the process of having him declared unfit to hold the said office.
The decision of the lawmakers came after the committee’s vice chairperson and Mandera North MP Major Bashir Abdulahi told the members Mutua had called informing him that he would be late for the meeting as President William Ruto who was overseeing the swearing in of the Chief Administrative Secretaries had requested him to remain behind to deliberate on the visit of the former UK Premier Tony Blair.
Initially, Mutua had sought the Committee’s intervention to delay the meeting for an hour as he was attending the swearing-in of the newly-appointed CASs at State House.
