Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni’s son, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has bragged of the country’s financial muscles to purchase an English Premier League (EPL) football club.

Muhoozi, who serves as the Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), asked online fans to suggest a team they would want bought by the country.

Muhoozi, in his most recent social media outbursts, stated that Uganda has enough money to purchase one of the British football teams.

Taking to his official X account on Sunday, February 23, 2025, Muhoozi asked Ugandans to give suggestions on which football club the country should go for.

“Uganda now has enough money to buy one of those British football teams! Which one should we buy?” Muhoozi stated.

Muhoozi’s team suggestions

He went ahead to give three options, asking Ugandans to choose between Arsenal, Manchester United, and Chelsea football clubs.

According to Muhoozi, the team that will be purchased will have to wear the Visit Uganda brand as part of their playing kits.

“Ugandans, last chance. Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea…whichever team you pick will have to wear the Visit Uganda brand,” Muhoozi wrote on X.

Muhoozi, who is not new to controversy, has been making social media posts that have been raising concerns.

Just recently, he threatened to behead Uganda’s opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine. In his Sunday outburst on X, Muhoozi, again, threatened to go after Bobi Wine when he admitted that he was the one behind a police raid at the National Unity Platform (NUP) party’s headquarters.

Spat with Sudan

Muhoozi has also previously been engaged in a spat with the Sudanese government, which last year demanded an official apology from Uganda.

Muhoozi on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, posted two inflammatory comments on the X platform, which he then deleted, claiming he could capture Khartoum with the support of U.S. President Donald Trump.

Sudan’s foreign ministry, in a statement dated December 18, 2024, called the remarks offensive and dangerous, urging the Ugandan government to apologize.

“Yesterday, the Commander of the Ugandan People’s Defence Forces, son of President Museveni, posted reckless and irresponsible remarks on the platform X, threatening to capture Khartoum as soon as U.S. President-elect Donald Trump takes office,” Sudan stated.

“This unprecedented and deviant utterance displays an incredible level of disrespect for international law, the ethos of interstate relations, and the principles of mutual respect between sisterly and friendly nations. It further constitutes a complete departure from the accepted code of conduct expected of holders of high official and military positions, who are required to exhibit reason, discipline, and careful choice of language in their behavior.”
