By , November 5, 2025

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has assured Kenyans that ongoing security reforms are already restoring peace and stability in areas previously affected by crime and banditry.

Murkomen, who appeared before the Senate Olenary Committee on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, said the Ministry remains firm in its resolve to uphold transparency and accountability in all its operations, guided by parliamentary oversight. He emphasised that the government’s top priority is ensuring the safety and security of every Kenyan.

“As a Ministry, we remain steadfast in our commitment to transparency and accountability through parliamentary oversight, ensuring the continued safety and security of our nation,” Murkomen said.

He noted that security agencies across the country have intensified intelligence-led operations, leading to the restoration of calm in regions that had long struggled with bandit attacks and violent crime. According to him, the government’s approach is now more strategic, focusing on prevention, intelligence gathering, and rapid response.

“Through intelligence-led operations, our security agencies have restored stability in banditry-prone regions, contained urban crime, and strengthened public safety,” Murkomen stated.

The Cabinet Secretary further told senators that the Ministry’s ongoing reforms are being guided by insights from Jukwaa La Usalama, a platform that brings together citizens, stakeholders, and policymakers to discuss security challenges and solutions.

He said these insights have been instrumental in shaping government policy, especially in enhancing coordination between security agencies and communities on the ground.

“Guided by insights from Jukwaa La Usalama, we continue to implement far-reaching reforms, including fast-tracking the modernisation of the National Police Service, to enhance institutional capacity, efficiency, and responsiveness,” he added.

Murkomen reaffirmed that the modernisation of the National Police Service remains a key pillar in the government’s security strategy, with investments being made in training, technology, and infrastructure to improve efficiency.

He said the reforms are part of broader government efforts to make law enforcement more responsive to emerging threats such as terrorism, organised crime, and cyber insecurity.

Murkomen’s statement comes at a time when Kenyans in several parts of the country have expressed concerns about security, particularly in pastoral regions and urban centres. His assurance signals a renewed government focus on building a more accountable and community-centred approach to national security.
