Murkomen reaffirms security efforts to deal decisively with political violence
By Kenneth Mwenda, April 11, 2026Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has condemned rising cases of political violence, warning that the government will act firmly against those behind such acts regardless of their political ties.
In a statement posted on his X account on Saturday, April 11, 2026, Murkomen said violence and organised disruption have no place in the country’s politics.
“Political violence and thuggery have no place in our society. We strongly condemn these crimes and will deal decisively with the perpetrators, irrespective of their political affiliation,” he said.
His remarks come at a time of heightened political tension, with recent incidents raising concern about the safety of leaders, supporters and the public during political events.
Murkomen called on politicians across the divide to lower the temperature and focus on constructive engagement.
“I call on all political players across the divide to exercise tolerance, denounce violence, and embrace issue-based politics that will engage our youth positively,” he said.
He added that such an approach would help steer young people away from being used to cause chaos and instead involve them in nation-building efforts.
Judiciary to set precedent
The Cabinet Secretary also directed attention to the role of security agencies and the courts in dealing with the situation. He said police are already working to bring those responsible to book and urged the Judiciary to take the matter seriously.
“As our security agencies intensify efforts to bring those responsible to book, we call on the Judiciary to treat this matter with the seriousness it deserves and to set a firm precedent,” Murkomen stated.

Tensions ease, security tightened
His comments come as calm returned to Kikuyu town ahead of a planned rally by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Saturday, April 11, 2026. Earlier tensions had seen sections of the Southern Bypass blocked by suspected hired groups, who lit bonfires and disrupted movement.
Police later moved in, restored order and increased patrols, allowing businesses to reopen under tight security.
The rally has been preceded by a war of words between Gachagua and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah. Gachagua claimed there were plans to disrupt his meeting using hired individuals, claims that Ichung’wah dismissed as baseless and politically motivated.
In a separate development, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi is recovering after an attack in Kisumu that he linked to organised groups. The incident has added to growing fears over the use of hired youths in political confrontations.
Murkomen spoke while attending the Cherangany Unity Cup finals in Trans-Nzoia County, an event aimed at promoting positive behaviour among young people. He said such initiatives can help reduce the appeal of violence by giving youth better opportunities.
