Murkomen reaffirms govt’s commitment to ending bribery on roads

Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to curbing corruption on Kenyan roads.
In his ambitious plan to tackle the thorny issue of corrupt officers, Murkomen who was speaking during the National Police Service Development Partners Roundtable at the Kenya School of Government, Kabete, on Wednesday, March 26., 2025, stated the ministry will roll out an instant fining digital system to automatically fine individuals who break traffic rules.
The CS also lightly jested that through the system, the government will now raise enough revenue in penalties from offenders as they are often in large numbers.
“We will end this issue of people saying they are being forced to pay bribes on the roads and I believe that in the process because there are so many violators of the rules, we shall be in a position to raise revenue, but I am glad to have served at the Ministry of Roads and Transport,” he said.

The CS further reiterated the ministry’s commitment to restoring sanity on Kenyan roads by effectively strengthening the capacity and effectiveness of the National Police Service.
“A safe and orderly society is the foundation upon which economic growth and social cohesion can thrive. We shall, therefore, continue strengthening the capacity and effectiveness of our National Police Service. Held a roundtable with our development partners and the private sector, to deliberate on areas of working together in our ongoing efforts to modernize our National Police Service.
“The deliberations centered on the ongoing implementation of the National Task Force on Police Reforms and the NPS Strategic Plan (2023- 2027) to make the service more people-centered and better able to tackle crime. Continuous training, welfare improvement, digitization, equipment and infrastructural development are key to this transformation,” he added.
