Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has given his reassurance in Kenya’s capability to host African Nations Championship (CHAN) in 2025 and the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2027.
Murkomen in a statement shared via his official X account on Monday, November 18, 2024, said that the government is leaving no stone unturned in preparing the country to host the upcoming events.
“The government is leaving no stone unturned in preparing Kenya to host the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2025 and the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027,” Murkomen assured.
Murkomen on country’s readiness
Murkomen further stated that he had met his Defence counterpart Soipan Tuya for a strategic review of the country’s readiness to host the two events.
During the meeting, Murkomen said that they were encouraged by the progress in constructing Talanta Sports City Stadium and the ongoing upgrades at Moi Sports Centre Kasarani and Nyayo Stadium.
The stadia, Murkomen says, will align with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA standards, ensuring Kenya is ready to deliver world-class tournaments.

Murkomen on Monday, November 4, 2024, visited the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, to assess the ongoing renovations.
Murkomen in a statement shared via his official X account confirmed that work on the stadium remains on schedule, aligning with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) requirements to bring the venue up to international standards.
Murkomen on sports infrastructure
The renovations at Kasarani and Nyayo Stadiums, along with the construction of the new Talanta Sports City, Murkomen said, represent a significant investment in Kenya’s sports infrastructure.
He also stated that the projects not only aim to meet CAF and FIFA standards but also position Kenya as a key player in Africa’s sports landscape.
With CHAN just around the corner, Murkomen said the Ministry of Sports is focused on ensuring that both local fans and international visitors experience top-tier facilities, capable of hosting large-scale events, including the AFCON.
The CHAN tournament will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania from February 1-28, 2025.
