Murkomen flags delays in Nyandarua ID services
By Kiprono Keileb, August 20, 2025Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has flagged gaps in the rollout of national identity registration in Nyandarua County, saying the government will operationalise pending units to improve access to civil documentation for residents.
Speaking during his Jukwaa la Usalama tour of the county on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, Murkomen assessed ongoing exercises at the Huduma Centre grounds and acknowledged progress, while pointing out areas still lagging.
“I assessed the mobile ID and civil registration exercises at the Huduma Centre grounds as part of our Jukwaa la Usalama tour of Nyandarua County today,” Murkomen said in a statement on his X account.
The CS noted that some reforms were already paying off, with more residents now benefitting from quicker services.
“I am glad to note that residents are taking advantage of our reforms, which include fast-tracked services and free issuance to first-time ID applicants,” he said.
However, Murkomen pointed to gaps in coverage across Nyandarua, with only seven out of the ten sub-counties currently hosting registration units. He made it clear that this shortfall would be addressed
“We have registration units in seven of the ten sub-counties of Nyandarua County, and we shall operationalise the remaining three to improve access to IDs as well as Birth and Death certificate services by Wananchi,” he stated.

The statement highlights residents’ frustrations over long waits and the need to travel long distances to access essential documents such as identity cards and birth certificates. By promising to operationalise the pending units, Murkomen signalled the government’s intention to close these gaps.
His remarks come at a time when questions around access to IDs remain a thorny issue in many parts of the country. For youth, especially, delays in securing identity cards have long meant barriers to education, employment, and government services. Murkomen’s pledge to fast-track the operationalisation of pending units in Nyandarua is therefore expected to be closely watched.
By combining inspection with a call for immediate action, the CS positioned the Nyandarua leg of Jukwaa la Usalama as both an accountability exercise and a promise of better service delivery to wananchi.
