Murkomen effects widespread changes in national government administration ranks

Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration Kipchumba Murkomen has announced extensive transfers and deployments affecting Regional and County Commissioners across the country, in a restructuring aimed at strengthening service delivery, efficiency, and coordination of national government functions.

The Ministry of Interior and National Administration stated that the changes were informed by officers’ strengths, experience, and performance records.

According to the statement dated May 15, 2026, the reshuffle is intended to address security concerns and enhance the delivery of government services at the grassroots level.

The statement further indicated that officers promoted to new positions possess the required qualifications, experience, and demonstrated performance in their previous duties.

The reshuffle takes effect immediately and covers both Regional Commissioners and County Commissioners, with several officers reassigned to new stations while others are retained or deployed in acting capacities.

“The Ministry has effected the following changes in the ranks of Regional Commissioner and County Commissioner to enhance service delivery and ensure effective coordination of National Government functions across the country,” read Murkomen X’s statement in part.

Regional commissioners’ transfers

Among the changes, Rhoda Nyaboke Onyancha has been transferred from the Coast region to Nairobi, while Paul Rotich moves from Eastern to the Coast. Samson Macharia Irungu has been reassigned from Western to the Office of the President Headquarters, and Flora Nkatha Mworoah moves from Nyanza to OOP Headquarters.

In promotion deployments, Jacob O. Muganda, previously County Commissioner for Meru, has been appointed Regional Commissioner for Eastern. Onesmus Musyoki Kyatha, formerly County Commissioner for Kakamega, has been moved to serve as Regional Commissioner for Nyanza. Allan Machari has been deployed to OOP Headquarters in a similar promotion capacity for the Western region.

Three Regional Commissioners have been retained in their current postings: Joshua Muriungi Nkanatha in Central, John Odhiambo Otieno in North Eastern, and Abdi Mohammed Hassan, PhD, in Rift Valley.

County commissioners’ transfers

The Ministry also announced wide-ranging changes affecting County Commissioners. Joseph Kibet Boen moves from Kiambu to Kilifi, Stephen Kutwa Sangolo from Baringo to Lamu, and Jeremiah Mwai Gicheru from Kericho to Tana River.

Other transfers include John Kiprotich Cheruiyot from Samburu to Meru, Mwachaunga Mohamed Chaunga from Kisii to Machakos, and Shufaa Omar Mwijuma from Nyamira to Kirinyaga.

Additional movements include Alason Hussein from Kirinyaga to Trans Nzoia, Wesley Koech Mabwai from Lamu to Baringo, and James Taari Rwaria from PA/RC North Eastern to Kakamega. Others include Benson David Leparmorijo from Kisumu to Nyamira, James Gatutha Kamau from Marsabit to Kisii, and several officers redeployed from OOP Headquarters to county stations.

New deployments from SDCC and OOP Headquarters include Jackson Ngelai Olechuta to Garissa, Ronald O. Enyakasi to Wajir, Stanley Ndungu Kamande to Marsabit, George Odhiambo Omolo to Isiolo, Isaac Keter Cheruiyot to Samburu, George O. Matundura to Kiambu, Ali Omari to Kericho, and others across multiple counties.

The Ministry confirmed that all transfers and deployments take effect immediately. The restructuring covers multiple regions including coastal, northern, eastern, and western administrative zones.

The changes form part of ongoing national efforts to enhance coordination of government services and improve administrative responsiveness at county and regional levels across the country.
