Murkomen dismisses Tuju abduction claims as theatrics
By Ndiritu Wanjiru, March 23, 2026Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has lifted the lid on the dramatic disappearance of former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju, accusing him of orchestrating the entire episode in what the government now describes as a staged act.
Speaking on Monday, March 23, 2026, shortly after Tuju resurfaced and was arrested, Murkomen dismissed claims that the former CS had been abducted, instead pointing to forensic findings that he said placed him inside his Karen home the entire time he was reported missing.
“These kinds of theatrics must come to an end. We cannot have a situation where individuals stage abductions in order to gain sympathy or mislead the public. From the information we have received from our investigators, it is clear that Raphael Tuju never left his home. In fact, he was in the house during the entire period he was alleged to be missing,” Murkomen said.

The CS further disclosed that Tuju’s family had reported him missing but initially blocked police officers from accessing the Karen residence, an action that deepened suspicion and delayed verification efforts.
According to Murkomen, the situation took a dramatic turn after the Inspector General ordered officers to proceed with accessing the home.
“The family reported the matter, but at the same time, there were difficulties in allowing police officers access to verify what exactly was happening inside the residence. When the truth started coming out and investigators were closing in, that is when he resurfaced,” Murkomen added.
DCI’s take
Director of Criminal Investigations Amin Mohamed backed Tuju’s claims, revealing that forensic analysis contradicted Tuju’s version of events. He said detectives established that Tuju remained inside his house even after his phone went off at 6:16 pm on the day he was reported missing.
Amin explained that the report of Tuju’s disappearance on Saturday triggered a swift multi-agency operation, with both uniformed and undercover officers deployed to secure the area and pursue a court search warrant.
“When confronted with the reality that police were closing in on the truth, Mr Tuju chose to resurface,” Amin said.

Despite the mounting claims against him, Tuju has insisted that he went into hiding fearing for his life. He maintains that he was being trailed by unknown individuals, and says he managed to evade them near Nandi Road before abandoning his vehicle along Miotoni Lane in Karen.
The DCI confirmed the arrest of Raphael Tuju shortly after his resurfacing and is being held at the Karen Police Station and is expected to record a statement on his disappearance and his whereabouts for investigations.
