Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Kipchumba Murkomen, has announced the arrest of the bus driver and conductor of an overloaded Public Service Vehicle (PSV) that was captured on camera by a motorist.
The video showed a bus labelled Queenta on a Nairobi highway with passengers hanging out of the doors and sides as it sped along the highway.
Murkomen directs
Upon encountering the video, Murkomen directed the National Transport Safety Authority (NTSA) to take immediate action. The NTSA successfully located the driver and conductor, and both are currently in custody at Capitol Hill Police Station.
“A safety-conscious road user captured an incident of dangerous driving and overloading involving a PSV. I directed NTSA to apprehend the crew and take necessary action. I can now report that the driver and the conductor are currently at Capitol Hill Police station,” Murkomen shared on his X account.
The Cabinet Secretary expressed gratitude to the public for actively participating in the road safety conversation.
Murkomen thankful
“I thank the public for supporting the Government and being part of the #UsalamaBarabarani conversation. It takes care and responsibility on the part of all road users to address challenges presented on our roads. I call upon all of us to continue speaking out against such vices,” he urged.

Murkomen insisted on the importance of reporting incidents on the roads and affirmed that with a united voice, they can collectively work towards ending needless loss of lives due to road accidents.
“Do not allow a reckless driver to take away the lives of innocent road users. Report incidences on our roads and action will be taken. With a united voice, we can end the needless loss of lives on our roads,” he said.
