Murkomen: 100,000 adults in Narok lack ID cards
By Arnold Ngure, August 11, 2025Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has revealed that at least 100,000 adults in Narok County lack national identification cards.
In a statement after presiding over the Jukwaa la Usalama security assessment programme in Narok County on Monday, August 11, 2025, Murkomen stated that the government had rolled out an initiative to ensure that the adult population is documented.
“As part of our Jukwaa la Usalama security and service delivery engagement in Narok County today, I assessed the mobile ID registration at the County Commissioner’s office grounds. The county, which has more than 100,000 adults without IDs, will see more people acquire the document once we roll out our Mobile Live Capture Unit, which we are currently piloting across the country,” Murkomen said.
Border county restrictions
He urged the residents of the county to take advantage of the free first-time ID applications to acquire the crucial document.

“I urged the residents to take advantage of this initiative and our other reforms, which include free issuance to first-time applicants and abolition of extra vetting in border counties like Narok, to apply for the crucial document. Birth and death certificates are now also issued on the same day,” he noted.
Coordinate efforts
Murkomen indicated further that the programmes would be coordinated by Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu, to boost awareness and engagement to encourage registration.
“I paid a courtesy call on Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu, who pledged to step up the collaboration between the two levels of government to boost security and service delivery in the county. Joining us were Narok Deputy Governor Tamalinye Koech, MPs Agnes Pareiyo (Narok North), David ole Sankok (East African Legislative Assembly), and County Assembly Speaker Davis Dikirr.
Murkomen was accompanied to the security meeting by the Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat (KPS), Deputy Inspector General (APS) Gilbert Masengeli, Principal Administrative Secretary Beverly Opwora, Secretary of National Administration Moses Lilan, Secretary of Internal Security Thomas Saka, representatives from the National Registration Bureau, Regional Police Commander Jasper Ombati, Narok County Commissioner Kipkech Lotiatia, and other senior government officials.
