Gatundu Senior Resident Magistrate Rachael Njeri yesterday allowed an application by the police to detain the 24-year-old man to enable sleuths to conduct further analysis and gather key evidence pointing to how the murder was executed.

Ngige who was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the heinous murder of the four, Laban Mwathi, Nguku Wambui, Peter Irungu and Earnest Muigai is also suspected to have attacked and seriously injured Tobias Wanyonyi who escaped death by a whisker.’

Investigating Officer Robert Kilonzo while making the application at the Gatundu law courts yesterday said that preliminary investigations indicated that Ngige was the one who attacked Wanyonyi.

“Our preliminary investigations show that the suspect before this court is the one who attacked Tobias Wanyonyi who survived with serious wounds before he was taken to hospital, treated and later discharged. Wanyonyi told police that he can positively identify the attacker and he did,” said Kilonzo.

The detective further told the court that police are yet to establish the relationship between the suspect, the deceased and the survivor adding that a post-mortem on the deceased is yet to be conducted.
The matter will be mentioned on September 5.
