Murathe reveals deals Jirongo was involved in, including one with Museveni
By Mabonga Makhanu, December 27, 2025Jubilee Party Vice National Chairperson David Murathe has stated that the late former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo may have stepped on some powerful people’s toes during his lifetime.
While speaking during Jirongo’s requiem mass held at CITAM Valley Road on Saturday, December 27, 2025, where friends and family gathered to pay tribute to the late leader, Murathe mourned him as an astute businessman who signed major business deals. Jirongo died following a road accident that occurred in the Kerela area near Naivasha town.
Murathe narrated that during his lifetime, if asked to draft a multibillion-dollar business deal, Jirongo would simply take a pen and paper and do it with ease. He noted that in the days leading to his death, Jirongo was still actively working on several business deals. He revealed that the late leader was involved in a deal in Libya, another project in Ruai, and a carbon credits business deal involving Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni. According to Murathe, these ventures may have rattled powerful figures along the way.
He further added that the late Jirongo was one of the most misunderstood individuals, yet he had a deep love for the country. Murathe suggested that while standing firm on his beliefs and principles, Jirongo may have offended influential people in the process.
“Cyrus worked out big deals, some real and some in the sky, but give him a pen and paper and he could craft a multimillion-dollar deal. He was already working on some; he had talked to me about the reconstruction of Libya, his project in Ruai, and carbon credits with Museveni. Above all, he loved this country and wanted stability and visionary leadership,” Murathe said.
Source of Jirongo’s wealth
Jirongo’s friends have also come out to defend the source of his wealth, which many have previously linked to corruption. Led by former Nairobi Town Clerk Philip Kisia, they stated that Jirongo became a billionaire long before joining politics and that his wealth was acquired through legitimate means. Kisia added that, in fact, politics drained Jirongo financially and contributed to his instability.
The requiem mass was marked by a sombre mood, with mourners wearing sad faces as they viewed the lifeless body of the veteran politician lying in the casket.
The late Cyrus Jirongo will be laid to rest at his Lumakanda homestead on December 30, 2025. The requiem mass was held in line with the funeral itinerary, as planned by the funeral committee.
