Ex-State House communications chief Mugonyi officially takes over as CA boss
David Mugonyi has officially assumed the role of Director General at the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA).
The authority said Mugonyi reported to his office on Monday morning. He was received by the CA Board led by chairperson Mary Wambui and the Director of Corporate Communications Chris Wambua, who has been serving as the acting DG since October last year.
“DG Mugonyi had a tour of the CA Centre visiting the departments and members of staff where he was taken through various department mandates,” the statement reads.
Later on, Mugonyi held a meeting with the CA management team as he officially commenced his new role.
Mugonyi reported to work a month after his appointment by Eliud Owalo, the Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy.
The immediate former Head of the Presidential Communication Service replaces Ezra Chiloba, who resigned in October last year.
Chiloba resigned weeks after he was suspended over allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office.
He was accused of abusing the authority’s mortgage scheme by applying for and self-approving a mortgage loan without exercising due process. The loan was to reportedly facilitate the purchase of a property between Chiloba and another individual.
The Board further disclosed that the former CA boss purchased a house and acquired land of seven acres beyond the allowed one-acre limit under the Civil Servants Housing Scheme requirement.
