Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, has issued a statement updating Kenya’s diplomatic and international partners on recent executive actions taken by President William Ruto.

This communication, part of the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs’ regular updates, aims to ensure continued cooperation and mutual support from international allies.

Mudavadi survival

On July 11, 2024, President Ruto initiated changes within the National Government Executive. All Cabinet Secretaries and the Attorney-General were dismissed, with the exception of Mudavadi himself.

This decisive action falls within the constitutional powers granted to the President and is aimed at restoring public confidence in the integrity of the Cabinet.

Mudavadi emphasized that these reforms are a reflection of President Ruto’s commitment to addressing the citizens’ concerns, which have been prominently voiced in recent weeks.

“The President has kept his assurance of listening and responding to citizens from the bottom up. The progressive reforms our President has embarked on are geared towards a genuine fulfilment of the citizens’ aspirations that were unmistakably expressed in the past weeks. This is the philosophy behind Kenya Kwanza (Kenya, First) Government where the voice of the citizenry matters,” Mudavadi said in his statement.

He said the current administration is committed to expanding political and civic space, ensuring that the voice of the citizenry is central to governance.

“Under this administration, the open political and civic space shall only be expanded and made better, and not otherwise. Our dedication to advancing democratic principles, institutionalism and the rule of law is central to all that we do,” Mudavadi continued.

“The President is committed to extending the length and breadth of public participation within the spirit of having a cooperative and diverse governance structure to achieve equity and inclusivity across social status, ages, genders and communities,” he added.

He also noted that the President would ensure that new Cabinet nominees are individuals of exceptional competence and integrity.

“The President will be meticulous to ensure that the nominees he proposes for the Cabinet are individuals of exceptional competence and integrity,” he pointed out.

He revealed that the interim, government operations, including diplomatic processes, will continue uninterrupted under the guidance of Principal Secretaries and other relevant officials.

Mudavadi on Ruto’s next step

According to Mudavadi, Ruto is set to engage in extensive consultations to form a broad-based government that fortifies national unity, peace, and prosperity while aligning with the Administration’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.
