Mudavadi reveals details of his meeting with UoN students leaders
By Mabonga Makhanu, July 28, 2025Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has shared details of his engagement with the student leadership of his alma mater, the University of Nairobi (UoN).
In a statement released after the meeting held on Monday, July 28, 2025, Mudavadi highlighted that the discussions with the University of Nairobi Students’ Association (UNSA), led by President Derrick Troy Rusana, focused on key welfare concerns affecting students at the institution.
“I had a meaningful and forward-looking engagement with the leadership of the University of Nairobi Students’ Association, ably led by their President, Mr Derrick Troy Rusana.” Mudavadi stated.

The engagement also addressed broader challenges facing young people across the country, with an emphasis on finding practical solutions. Mudavadi noted that both parties agreed to maintain sustained consultations aimed at delivering long-term results for students and the youth at large.
“Our candid dialogue centred on key welfare concerns affecting UoN students, as well as the broader challenges confronting young people across the country. We explored practical pathways for addressing these issues and committed to sustained consultations aimed at delivering lasting solutions.” Mudavadi said.
Role of young people
As an alumnus of the University of Nairobi, Mudavadi expressed his appreciation for the energy and commitment demonstrated by the student leaders. He underscored the importance of supporting young leaders as they continue to play a central role in shaping the country’s progress.
“As a proud alumnus of the University of Nairobi, I draw great inspiration from the energy, clarity, and commitment of these young leaders. They are not just tomorrow’s trailblazers; they are shaping Kenya’s progress today.” Mudavadi said.
The meeting, according to the prime CS, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with student leadership to address critical issues affecting learners and young people nationwide.

“Let’s continue to walk with them, support them, and trust in their potential to transform our nation.” He added.
This meeting by the Prime CS comes at a time when there is an uproar among Kenyans after the recent scale-down of capitation meant for primary and secondary schools as part of austerity measures by the finance ministry.
