Mudavadi pledges Hall of Honour recognition for landowners who ceded ancestral land for Kidundu Stadium
By Cy Muganda, January 31, 2026Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has pledged to immortalise landowners who agreed to cede ancestral land for the construction of Kidundu Stadium in Vihiga County by inscribing their names in the facility’s Hall of Honour.
In a statement posted on his X account on Saturday, January 31, 2026, Mudavadi announced a breakthrough following engagement with landowners around the proposed stadium site, paving the way for construction to begin in February.
“A dream decades in the making is finally coming to life in Vihiga County. The construction of Kidundu Stadium is now within reach, with a modern 10,000-seater facility set to host this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations,” Mudavadi stated.

Fair compensation
The Prime CS revealed that landowners agreed to cede their land to allow construction to commence after constructive engagement.
“Following a constructive engagement with landowners around the proposed site, we reached a major breakthrough after they agreed to cede land to allow construction to begin in February. Their goodwill has unlocked a historic moment for the county,” he said.
Mudavadi assured landowners that due process will be followed and all affected households will be fairly compensated.
“I assured the landowners that due process will be strictly followed, and that all affected households will be fairly and promptly compensated. The government’s commitment is clear, every family must be left in a dignified and secure position after giving up ancestral land passed down through generations,” he stated.

In recognition of their sacrifice, the Prime CS pledged permanent recognition for the landowners.
“In recognition of their selflessness and contribution to the greater good, the names of the landowners will be permanently inscribed in the stadium’s Hall of Honour once construction is complete,” Mudavadi said.
KDF to lead construction
The Prime CS further announced that construction will commence in February under the directive of President William Ruto.
“From February, and under the directive of H.E. President William Ruto, the Kenya Defence Forces will commence construction, with works expected to be completed within four months,” he stated.
Mudavadi emphasised the transformative impact the stadium will have on the county.
“Once finished, Kidundu Stadium will firmly place Vihiga on the national sporting map, creating opportunities for talent development, nurturing sporting excellence, and instilling pride among the people,” he said.
The Prime CS noted that the stadium is part of broader development initiatives in Vihiga County under the Kenya Kwanza administration.
“The stadium is part of a broader wave of transformative projects underway in Vihiga County under the Kenya Kwanza administration, including the Mudasa Affordable Housing Project, the Kenya School of Government hostels, modern markets, and the construction of several kilometres of roads,” Mudavadi concluded.
