Mudavadi outlines measures by govt to safeguard Kenyans in diaspora

The Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, has outlined key steps taken by the government in safeguarding Kenyans living abroad.

Taking to his X account on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, Mudavadi noted that diaspora remains a powerful pillar of Kenya’s development.

On his part, the diaspora has contributed to various developments in Kenya by driving investment, trade, skills transfer and global visibility.

“The diaspora remains a powerful pillar of Kenya’s development, driving investment, trade, skills transfer and global visibility, while supporting families and communities back home,” Mudavadi stated.

While Kenyans in the diaspora drive key sectors in the Country, Mudavadi has explained the measures in place by the Kenya Kwanza Administration to advance the diaspora agenda.

According to Mudavadi, the measures include expanded consular services, support to Kenyans in distress, bilateral labour agreements.

Also adding diaspora investment frameworks and continued growth in remittances.

“I outlined progress in advancing the diaspora agenda, including expanded consular services, support to Kenyans in distress, bilateral labour agreements, diaspora investment frameworks and continued growth in remittances,” he explained.

Mudavadi, who joined President William Ruto in a three-day State Visit to Italy, reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to protect Kenyans in Diaspora welfare, expand opportunities abroad and strengthen their role in national development.

“Together with H.E. President@WilliamsRuto, engaged Kenyans living, studying and working in Italy, reaffirming the Government’s commitment to protect their welfare, expand opportunities abroad and strengthen their role in national development,” Mudavadi stated.

Ruto’s remarks to Kenyans abroad

At the same time, President William Ruto, who is on a three-day visit to Italy, emphasised the importance of such engagements with Kenyans in the diaspora.

Taking to his official X account on Monday, April 20, 2026, evening, Ruto explained how consistent engagement with Kenyans in diaspora continues to sharpen Kenya’s policies and keep Kenyans informed about the progress we are making to transform our country.

On his part, through such engagements, the government has implemented targeted reforms to address challenges facing Kenyans living in diaspora.

Further adding that such engagements have led to the streamlining of recruitment agencies by taking firm action against rogue operators as well as establishing a dedicated department for diaspora affairs to serve Kenyans abroad.

“Through these engagements, we have implemented targeted reforms to address challenges facing our diaspora. We have streamlined recruitment agencies, taken firm action against rogue operators, and established a dedicated department for diaspora affairs to better serve Kenyans abroad,” Ruto stated.

“Back home, we have made great strides in education, job creation, healthcare, sports, infrastructure, agriculture, digital innovation, and financial inclusion, bringing us closer to achieving first-world economy status.Pleased to engage with Kenyans living in Italy, in Rome,” he explained.
