Mudavadi leads talks to unlock more trade deals with Ethiopia
By Kiprono Keileb, February 1, 2026Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has said Kenya’s partnership with Ethiopia will help strengthen regional security while opening opportunities for trade and investment between the two countries.
Speaking after a bilateral consultative meeting in Addis Ababa on Sunday, February 1, 2026, Mudavadi emphasised the historical ties that bind the two nations.

“Kenya and Ethiopia share a long and enduring partnership, built on trust, shared priorities, and a common vision for prosperity and stability in our region. In Addis Ababa, held a productive consultative bilateral meeting with Gedion Timothewos Hessebon, Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, as we continue to strengthen the ties that bind our two nations and our people,” Mudavadi said.
During the meeting, the leaders discussed strategies to boost inter-regional trade and investment, as well as ways to enhance peace and security across the Horn of Africa.

“Our discussions focused on unlocking greater inter-regional trade and investment opportunities, reinforcing collaboration on regional peace and security, and advancing the role of African-led institutions in delivering sustainable, home-grown solutions to African challenges,” Mudavadi added.
The Prime Cabinet Secretary highlighted the importance of diplomatic channels in ensuring that bilateral relations remain productive and mutually beneficial.
“I was joined by Amb. Galma M. Boru, Head of Mission at the Kenya Embassy in Addis Ababa, and Amb. Petronila Were, Deputy Head of Mission, whose continued support is key to advancing Kenya’s diplomatic and economic interests in Ethiopia and across the region,” he said.

Mudavadi also noted that Kenya’s approach would be guided by African-led solutions, ensuring that the countries address regional challenges through homegrown initiatives rather than external interference.
Mudavadi insisted that strong diplomatic and economic ties with Ethiopia will not only benefit both nations but also enhance peace and development across the wider Horn of Africa region.
