Prime Cabinet Secretary Mudavadi has disclosed that the government is backing the Director of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Mohamed Amin, to take up a senior role at the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol).

Musalia Mudavadi made the remarks on Saturday, October 11, 2025, during Amani Yuda Komora’s thanksgiving ceremony as Chair of the National Police Service Commission in Tana River County.

Komora took over the role from Eliud Kinuthia.

Representation at Interpol

“We are pushing to have the DCI boss be the head of Interpol. He has a very good chance. As the Inspector of Police, the Interior Ministry, and also the Foreign Affairs Ministry, we are all pushing to get this done,” he stated.

He acknowledged that Kenya’s bid for representation in the organisation’s Executive Committee stood a good chance.

“It is possible if we maintain professionalism in the police service. Our police service boasts a reputation as one of the most professional and disciplined security forces in the world. Our officers have represented our nation in over 50 international peacekeeping missions, carrying the Kenyan flag high with dignity and integrity,” he stated.

“There has not been a single record of them violating human rights. They have demonstrated that we can maintain the standards. I want to urge Komora that he has to maintain that or take it higher,” he stated.

Interpol has a rotating leadership structure, with a president and an executive committee comprising representatives from different regions. The Executive Committee plays a crucial role in shaping global policing policies and priorities.

Mudavadi also challenged the Tana River residents to prioritise peace as a means to foster development in the region.

“I appeal to the residents and leaders of Tana River County to protect the peace and harmony in their communities, because lasting peace is not only the foundation of security but also a magnet for investment and development. Investors are always drawn to stable, peaceful environments where their contributions can thrive,” he said.

The event was attended by Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration Kipchumba Murkomen, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, Director of DCI Mohamed Amin, Principal Secretaries, Governor of Tana River Dhadho Godhana, Senators Danson Mungatana and Ledama Olekina, COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli, Members of Parliament, and several Members of County Assembly.
