Mudavadi jets to Addis Ababa to lead last minute campaigns for Raila’s AUC bid

Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, left the country for Addis Ababa to lead last minute campaigns for African Union Chairmanship (AUC) candidate Raila Odinga.

In a statement shared via his office on X, the CS expressed confidence that Raila’s victory as AUC’s chair will leverage Kenya’s position in the continent. 

He also noted that the former Prime Minister’s win will put the country at the helm of key decision making in Africa. 

“Under his tenure, Raila’s agenda will be to scale up efforts to bridge the infrastructural development gap, integration, economic transformation, enhancing intra Africa trade through African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA), Financial independence, agricultural transformation, climate action, peace security, youth empowerment and gender equity and equality in the continent,” the CS said.

Other events

Mudavadi is also expected to attend African Union’s 46th session of the Executive Council which will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 and Friday, February 14, 2025. 

President William Ruto will also attend the event.

Other key meetings Mudavadi will attend include the AU Convention on Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (AU CEVAWG), changing the story on malaria; whose agenda aims to deliver Malaria-free Africa and a high level event on immunization. 

He will also accompany President Ruto to his meeting of the African Heads of State and Government on Climate Change.
